News and a Picnic - July 14th, 2018

Greetings to all Lochaber Bay Cemetery supporters!

It has been a while since we have sent out a communications!

Fence Repair Day - Picnic, July 14th

Saturday July 14th we are doing some fence repair and painting at the cemetery. Our plan is to start at 10:30am and have a picnic lunch 12:30 to 1:30.

This would be a great opportunity for people to join us for a picnic lunch and visit the cemetery! Bring a chair, sun protection and of course your lunch! We'll set up a canopy for shade and would love to give you a tour of the historic headstones and talk about the history of the region. Rain or shine!

Recent Passings

We have had two interments in the last year.

Ora Hollingsworth Lamb passed away on September 27th, 2017 and is buried in the cemetery along side her husband Frank Lamb. Ora was a great supporter of the cemetery and was always present at our gatherings offering homemade sandwiches and great conversation! ( Obituary ⇗ )

Phyllis Hope McLachlan (Raynard) passed away suddenly on May 30th, 2018. Wife of Bill McLachlan and ardent supporter of the cemetery, Phyllis had many passions including her love of animals and music and of course spending time with family both in this region and in Nova Scotia. ( Obituary ⇗ )

Our sincere condolences to the Lamb and McLachlan families.

Historic Connections

We are continually make connections with people who are related in some way with the cemetery. It is an amazing story and one we keep updating on our website and family tree database.

Please visit the website at www.lochabercemetery.org

The Stories section is quite interesting as well as the Plots section - especially the Headstone Pictures sub-section with the inscriptions so carefully documented by Marion MacLachlan in the 1980's and linked into the family tree database.

Please stay connected and tell us a story!

A current project is to try and map out where everyone lived in the area and especially where the Church, Schoolhouse and Cheese factory were! If you have any clues, please let us know! We'll bring a map on the 14th!

Best regards,
